OSDU and LAKEer for Oil & Gas
The Open Subsurface Data Universe (OSDU) Ontology is an open source ontology for subsurface energy data, based on schema files and standards specified by the Open Subsurface Data Universe community. It was developed to help organize data for the oil & gas industry.
DaaX has adapted it to organize knowledge for the oil & gas industry. Our adapted OSDU ontology is available as a plug-in domain knowledge cartridge for LAKEer (select it during LAKEer setup).
When LAKEer ingests oil & gas information, it automatically uses the OSDU ontology to extract knowledge and populate our DaaX 3D graph with it.

OSDU defines the standard vocabulary for subsurface energy data.
DaaX's adapted OSDU cartridge turns that vocabulary into typed, queryable relationships.
DaaX LAKEer uses it to extract knowledge from unstructured data — and populate the DaaX 3D graph automatically.
The combination of OSDU and LAKEer enables a category shift — from oil & gas AI that keyword-searches scanned reports, to AI that reasons over a structured, domain-aware graph of your oil & gas knowledge.
What You Get with OSDU + LAKEer
Industry-Standard Ontology, Pre-Loaded
The DaaX OSDU cartridge plugs into LAKEer at setup. No custom schema modeling required to start ingesting wells, logs, completion reports, and seismic metadata.
Automatic Knowledge Extraction
LAKEer ingests unstructured oil & gas documents — PDFs, tables with merged cells, figures — and uses OSDU to extract entities and relationships into the DaaX 3D graph.
Reasoning Over Subsurface Knowledge
Engineers and analysts query the graph in natural language. LAKEer reasons over OSDU-typed relationships rather than matching keywords across siloed documents.
Trustworthy, Verifiable Answers
Every answer is grounded in the source documents and the OSDU graph — mitigating LLM hallucinations on the high-stakes decisions your subsurface teams make.
